Lake District wedding turns into inferno

A lavish Lake District wedding celebration turned into an exploding inferno at the weekend as the blushing bride and groom posed for pictures.

Guests had to be evacuated as flames engulfed the luxury lakeside location on the shores of Lake Windermere after fireworks began to explode into the sky.

61 year old insurance boss John Simpson tied the knot with Nicole Rothwell, 44 in a Register Office earlier that week and the wedding reception had just began when the explosions started at around 3.35pm on Saturday afternoon.

During what was described as a beautiful day in the grounds of the couple's stunning home, onlookers told reporters at the Daily Mail how fireworks began shooting skywards as the bride in her wedding gown smiled for the camera.

A musician hired to play at the wedding was shocked to see the impromptu firework display in broad daylight, saying, "The bride was in her gown in the garden with the groom and the fireworks just started going off.  The flaming debris was flying all around".

In what was one of the busiest weekends of the summer holidays before the children returned to school, holidaymakers and residents learned that a man and woman had died as a result of the blaze.

It is believed that the bride and groom had planned a spectacular fireworks display later in the evening and a spokesperson for Cumbria Police confirmed that emergency services were called to the scene after a 'shed containing fireworks was on fire'.
