Ron Dennis Battles to Save McLaren Career

Ron Dennis's fate as chairman of Formula One team McLaren will be decided in the coming days as a bitter boardroom rift reaches its conclusion.

Mr Dennis, considered to be one of the most influential individuals in Formula One, is fighting to stop McLaren's majority shareholders from placing him on gardening leave until his contract expires in January.

The 69-year-old is being forced out of the team after a dispute with fellow owner Mansour Ojjeh, a Saudi businessman who is supported by the Bahraini royal family who are McLaren's majority shareholders.

If he is forced to leave the team, the move will bring to an end Dennis's 35-year leadership of McLaren, during which time the team won 10 drivers' and seven constructors' championships.

Formula One's chief executive Bernie Ecclestone, said:

"There was a court case on Friday. Ron wanted to overturn what happened and he lost the case unfortunately. He is appealing. We don't want to lose Ron."
