Care home managers earn up to 100,000K

Some care home managers are earning six figure sums a recent industry report has revealed.

As the number of elderly and vulnerable people grows so does the number of upmarket care homes springing up across the country with many who run the lucrative businesses set to earn up to £100,000 pay packets.

The high salaries are being paid at a time when the average cost of a place in a basic care home is as much as £600 per week with homes in some parts of the country charging up to £1,000 per week.

The report was conducted by business analysts Laing and Buisson and looked into care home pay levels specifically, highlighting pay differences right from the top to the bottom end of the scale.

The low-skilled domestic staff employed in care homes earn the minimum wage, currently set at £6.31 per hour, rising to £6.50 per hour in October.

Focusing on the top earners in the care home industry, the report detailed in the Mail Online demonstrated that in addition to being paid a generous basic salary, those employed to run the largest and most upmarket homes were also paid big bonuses to fill expensive beds.

The author of the report, James Rumfitt commented that 'the most profitable care home companies want a manager who can run a business, not just someone to fill in a series of tick boxes and they are willing to pay and reward accordingly'.

The findings also went on to say that there is no evidence yet to show whether higher pay for managers goes alongside better standards of care.
