A DJ has been accused of exaggerating her inability to work after being struck by falling masonry and launching a £100,000 compensation claim.
Chloe Caillet alleged she was unable to DJ for six months after a brick cornice fell on her in Notting Hill, west London, in June 2018. She said she suffered injuries to her left shoulder, knee, back, legs, feet and hands, along with dizziness, disturbed sleep, nightmares, anxiety and memory problems.
The court heard she claimed the incident derailed her career. However, evidence later suggested the 33-year-old had continued performing at events across the globe.
Accused of "fundamental dishonesty," Ms Caillet admitted to Mayor's and City County Court that her earlier statement saying she had not "performed" was inaccurate, but argued it was due to a misunderstanding of the term. She explained that some of her appearances involved pre-recorded sets, playlists, or simply being present for publicity.
Ms Caillet is suing the building's owner, O'Hare Holdings Ltd, for £99,851, including around £62,000 in lost earnings. O'Hare, while admitting liability for the accident, challenged the scale of her claim.
Lawyers for the company pointed to her social media activity, with barrister Nick Grimshaw noting: "The claimant returned to work as a DJ very soon after the accident and performed internationally at numerous high-profile venues throughout the six months for which loss of earnings are claimed. The claimant's own Instagram account evidences relentless self-promotion, and travel for numerous performances, but these entries were then deleted."
The trial is ongoing.
