The Scottish island half the price of a flat

It may be lacking electricity and running water, but Holm of Huip, nestling among the Orkney Islands can be yours for less than half the cost of a one-bed property in London.

The island is on the market for £350,000. At the other end of the spectrum, the average price of a one-bed flat in inner London is £755,655, according to the latest Right Move price index.

Recently a one-bed flat went on sale at One Hyde Park for a massive £10 million. And in Islington a bedsit with just 188sq foot of room was recently snapped up for £275,000.

For just slightly more money you could be the proud owner of the entire island of Huip, and its 250,000 square metres of stunning natural beauty.

The island is home only to a herd of seals, and can only be reached by boat or helicopter in good weather.

If an interested party were to buy the island, it would be the first time in over 100 years that the island has been lived-on. However, there are legal barriers restricting anyone from living there permanently, with short stays of up to three months in the summer generally permitted.
