Five Changes to Employment Law

Are you an employee or an employer? If so you should know about these changes that came into effect on 29 July 2013 that can affect anyone.

 

They have all been altered to try and discourage you from making a claim. This is due to peoples high expectations of compensation.

 

1. Compromise agreements are now known as settlement agreements.

 

2.  Pre-termination negotiations have become excluded in unfair dismissal proceedings.

 

3. Claimants who put forward a claim against their employer are now required to pay a fee.

 

4. Pre-hearing reviews and case management discussions are now to be combined.

 

5. Compensation will be limited to either 52 weeks' pay or a £74,200 limit, whichever is the lowest amount.

 

The alterations are meant to discourage you from claiming due to the public's unrealistic expectations of compensation.

 

The new changes are sure to reduce the tribunal systems workload as well as making the public think twice before issuing a claim.
