Derby Residents Voice Local Policing Opinions Today

Residents in Derby are voicing their opinions on local policing today and being heard by no other than the county's own police and crime commissioner.

The Disability Direct event, which is open right now at Derby Arena in Pride Park, Derby, is being hosted by Alan Charles and is scheduled to take place until 3pm this afternoon, after opening at 10am this morning.

Mr Charles, Derbyshire's police and crime commissioner, said:

"This is a great opportunity for us to identify trends of concern and by going into the community and speaking to residents face-to-face, it gives us a real appreciation of what matters most to them.

"Hearing their views and experiences, whether they are about anti-social behaviour, parking and speeding problems, alcohol and drug related issues or burglary and violence, tells me what I need to know in order to make the county safer."

Mr Charles, who launched a new public consultation exercise aimed at capturing the local opinion on policing and community safety, is currently at the 'Do What You Want: Live Event' which brings 150 organisations together to promote services in Derby for disabled and older people and provides crime prevention advice.
