Calls For Unity After Two Knife Attacks in Less Than a Week

There has been public outcry after a man was injured in a street stabbing in Nottingham, just days after another man died in a separate knife attack.

Nottinghamshire Police confirmed a man was stabbed on Willoughby Street, Lenton, in the early hours of Sunday morning. They are also investigating reports that a gun was fired moments after the attack.

This latest incident comes just days after 21-year-old Aqib Mazhar was knifed to death on Russell Road in Hyson Green. Two people have since been charged with his murder.

Sunday's incident in Lenton is not believed to be related to Mr Mazhar's murder.

John Greensmith, whose stepson Jason Spencer was stabbed to death in 2007, appealed to the community to do more to tackle knife crime. He said:

"I'm just asking people out there who know people who are carrying knives to come forward. How would they feel if that person went out and killed someone? It's those things that infuriate me. There's friends, families, partners that know and choose not to say anything but those days have got to stop.

"It's going to take Nottingham as a community to fight it and not to put it solely at the feet of the police."
