Grandmother of snatched Cancer boy slams police

The grandmother of 5 year old Cancer victim Ashya King spoke out today about what she claims is the 'cruel' decision to ban her entire family from his bedside.

Patricia King has told reporters that she thinks it is an 'utter disgrace' that Ashya is being kept hundreds of miles from his loved ones as he lies critically ill in a Malaga hospital.

His parents, Brett and Naghmeh King were arrested for child neglect when they snatched him from his bed at Southampton General Hospital, taking him to Spain.  The couple are currently being held in police cells in Madrid.

The pair who were hand-cuffed and taken into custody at Velez-Malaga Police Station more than five hours away, appear at a hearing at the National Court in Madrid. They could be extradited back to Britain if the Spanish authorities agree they were responsible for child cruelty.

Ashya's mother and father who are both Jehovah's Witnesses fled  to the Costa Del Sol where they own a property after their son had undergone surgery for an aggressive brain tumour. Together with Ashya and their six other children, they boarded a ferry to France, driving to Southern Spain.

Claiming that the decision to remove their son from the Southampton hospital came after hours of extensive research online, the family refused to believe NHS doctors when they were told Ashya could not be saved and would die within four months.

The King's epic journey to Spain came in their quest for Proton Beam Therapy not available on the NHS but widely used in Europe, costing £100,000 per patient.
