Leeds burglar stung by wasps nest

Hapless Leeds burglar Jamie Brown found himself with more than just a police sting when he sat on a wasps nest trying to evade the eyes of the law.

West Yorkshire Police heard cries of pain while they were hunting for the burglar who broke into a Leeds shop and stole a £200 fish tank.

When officers investigated the noise, they found the 29 year old had squatted on a bush to hide and inadvertently disturbed an angry nest of wasps.

As the bungling burglar made his escape from The Range Furniture Outlet in Hunslet, Leeds around 8.15pm on a Saturday night, he abandoned the fish tank and a pair of gloves and beat a hasty retreat.

As the strong arm of the law assisted him out of the buzzing bush, Mr Brown was reported to be in so much pain that he could hardly breathe and had to be taken straight to the hospital.

Inspector Chris Bowen speaking about the burglar told the Daily Mail that the fish tank thief was in hospital for about five or six hours but seemed to be 'physically well now'.

Mr Brown's unfortunate decision to hide in a bush housing a wasps nest cost him a 24 week custodial sentence as he had breached a previous suspended sentence while committing the latest crime.
