Grenfell Tower Officer spared Jail time over child porn

One of the country's senior black female officers was yesterday spared a jail sentence after being convicted for having a child abuse video on her phone. She was instead sentenced to 200 hours' community service and has been told her career is all but over.

Acting Chief Supt Novlett Robyn Williams, aged 54, who had been commended for her work during the aftermath of the Grenfell disaster, received the video on WhatsApp from her sister Jennifer Hodge, in February last year. She was one of seventeen people to receive the video.

The jury agreed and accepted that Williams had never opened the video clip, but subsequently rejected the claim that she was unaware of its presence. She was cleared of corrupt or improper exercise of police powers and privileges by a constable, by failing to report the video.

Williams was told by the judge that the conviction was a complete tragedy, as she had had a stellar career spanning over 30 years.

Scotland Yard have confirmed that Williams remains on restricted duties, although she could lose her job pending an investigation into misconduct. Jennifer Hodge, 56, was found guilty of distributing an indecent image of a child and was given 100 hours' community service, she was subsequently sacked as a social worker despite claiming that she distributed the video in a bid to find the perpetrator.

Dido Massivi, 61, Hodge's boyfriend, was convicted of one count of possessing an extreme pornographic image and two counts of distributing an indecent photograph of a child. He was given 200 hours' community service and an 18-month jail sentence, suspended for two years. All three will be placed on the sex offenders register.
