House Sellers hit 6 year high

The Conservative victory at last month's general election sent residential property sales rocketing to a post-referendum high, as industry experts predict a surge in house prices.

Since Boris Johnson put his critics to the test and secured the largest Conservative majority Government since 1987, more sellers have put their houses on the market according to the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.

Simon Rubinsohn, RICS's chief economist, said "the survey provides further evidence that the housing market is seeing some benefit from the greater clarity provided by the decisive election outcome".

However, he did warn that a lack of houses on the market could be a "potential drag on a meaningful uplift".

The housing market has suffered immensely as a result of the uncertainty facing the UK around Brexit.  Since Boris has seemingly instilled confidence back into the UK, and getting Brexit delivered, it has seen a boost in confidence in the housing market.

Samuel Tombs, Pantheon Macro economist  said, "that London could see a surge in transactions before the Budget in march after the Conservatives promised to introduce a stamp duty surcharge for non-UK residents".
