Online Backlash After "London is Gone" Comment

An American author has found herself at the centre of an online backlash after sharing a friend's remark that London has "gone – all Islamic."

Jamie Johnson, writer of conservative political philosophy book Don't Take My Lemonade Stand, posted the comment to her Twitter feed alongside a link to an article about the integration of Muslims into British society.

The tweet read, "My friends just returned from London. Shocked. Hadn't been for 20 years. Said London is gone – all Islamic."

Although a handful of followers supported her comment, hundreds more mocked the remark and accused her of "scaremongering."

Twitter user Ryan John Butcher responded: "London was still here last time I checked."

Others found the comments less comical and accused Ms Johnson of racism and xenophobia.

Ms Johnson posted the comment in response to Dame Louise Casey's study into integration in the UK. The year-long study found that division is growing in certain communities and calls for migrants to take an "oath of integration" as soon as they arrive in the UK.
