An Escort Must Return the Tax She Avoided or Face Jail

This lady made more than £300,000 as an "escort" to fund her Master's Degree, alledgedly cheating the tax man from 2005 to 2007.

The prosecutor Jonathan Polnay reported that the individual failed to file any tax returns for most of her working career.

The consequences of her actions are to either pay back the £174,243 owed within three months or serve two and a half years in jail.

Judge Testar said that "Her family have been embarrassed by these proceedings, not only because of the offence but because they didn't know she was working as an escort in the first place."

By making up to £1000 a night, she was able to afford a £110,000 deposit on a posh apartment. Later, police found £73,000 in cash and jewellery in her house bought with money made from escorting, some given as gifts from clients.

She admitted one count of cheating the public revenue and has been jailed for 16 months. The £174,243 will still need to be paid back or she will face another two-and-a-half years in prison.
