BAE to cut 940 Jobs

Shipyard workers at Plymouth have been issued with redundancy notes.

Rumours of the redundancies began circulating early this month. Workers at BAE's Scottish sites also face redundancy with approximately 800 positions going.

The job cuts will affect many individuals across the country. Staff at the company were told that voluntary redundancies and early retirement were hoped for.

Jamie Webster, GMB union convenor at BAE's Govan yard, said, "On the plus side, the redundancies are scheduled over three years, which eased the pain slightly. On the downside, some of the sections are getting hit very, very quickly."
