Environmentally friendly students advise people to urinate in the shower

Debs Torr and Chris Dobson say urinating in the shower and not flushing the toilet would save 12 litres of water with every non-flush.

The pair claim if every British student followed their 'Go With The Flow' advice, it would result in a saving of £125,000.

Both 20 year olds came up with the idea at the University of East Anglia in Norwich as part of an environmental initiative.

Chris said, "We've done the maths and this project stands to have a phenomenal impact. With 15,000 students at UEA, over a year we would save enough water to fill an Olympic- sized swimming pool 26 times over."

The students have consulted one of their professors who said urinating in the shower is hygienic.

If everyone in the UK took part in the campaign, they could save around £430 million a year and 720 million litres of water.

Chris added, "The campaign has been really divisive - people either seem to love it or hate it. But that's exactly what we want. We're trying to challenge conventional behaviour and to start a debate on a resource that we largely take for granted."
