Couple prisoners in their own home

A couple were trapped in their own home as neighbours gave instructions to build a 6ft fence in their front garden, blocking them from accessing their four bedroom home.

Wendy and Paul Collins can no longer move their yellow seat Ibiza car off the drive having watched builders barricade the end of their garden path.

The mum of three aged 62 has lived in the four bedroom house for 25 years which fronts on to a car park used by nearby residents of a block of flats.

Retired teacher Wendy said, "It's ridiculous. We can still get in and out via the back door but we are used to going out the front. The only way to do that now is to use a ladder and clamber over the fence."

Sadler Mills, the company that own the flats had warned retired teacher Wendy and engineer Paul, 60 in July that they would build the fence on August 15.

The company argued the untidy garden and broken wall was knocking value off the flats in Brownhills, West Midlands.

Owner of one of the apartments and company director Michael Nicholls said the couple had received enough warning and 'we offered to pay for the wall if they signed it over to us.'
