In terms of defective products the Consumer Protection Act of 1987 introduced guidelines for the payment of compensation after injury has been caused by a defective product. 

The Act covers a wide range of consumer goods including;

 Pharmaceutical Products

 Medical Devices (artificial Hips, Pacemakers, etc)

 Items used in the Workplace

 Products making up other device (engine parts)

A product is considered to be defective if at the point it was supplied it didn't meet the realistic expectations of the user. 

Such expectations could be considered to be a function of the products marketing, instructions or warnings.

You can claim compensation for injury or damage to property as long as the damage is in excess of £275.00

In terms of compensation you will be entitled to both general damages and special damages. 

General damages are generally referred to as pain and suffering. Special damages relate to financial loses such as loss of earnings, expenses, care costs and physiotherapy. 

Any claim should be brought within 3 years of the date of the injury.
