Man Left in Critical Condition after Stockport Attack

A man has been taken to hospital in a critical condition after being punched in the face outside a bar in Stockport.

The victim, 24 years old, was assaulted shortly before 3am yesterday morning (15th March) near Bar One on London Road in Hazel Grove, Stockport. He had been walking along London Road when he was approached by a man who launched into an unprovoked attack, punching him in the face. The victim then lost consciousness and remains in a critical condition in hospital.

Police have released a description of the offender, a 5ft 10in mixed race man of stocky build with a shaved head, and are appealing to anyone with information of the attack to come forward.

Detective Inspector Andy Naismith, of Greater Manchester Police's Major Incident Team, said:

"The force of this punch caused the victim to lose consciousness and he is in a serious condition in hospital.

"We now need to establish exactly what led up to this assault and what prompted the offender to do what he did.

"We believe there were potential witnesses who were nearby when the assault happened and either witnessed what happened, the run-up to the attack or the aftermath so if you do have information then please call us."
