Mother and daughter sue each other

A mother and daughter involved in a bitter High Court Battle to sue one another failed to impress the Judge who threw both cases out.

Following the 11 day long Court case, Judge Richard Seymour QC, described it as "A most unhappy family discord".

71 year old Hertfordshire mother Nicola Low and her 40 year old daughter Caroline Baines became embroiled in the £150,000 case after a row about the family estate agency.

The argument began when Caroline Baines claimed her mother had reduced her salary after she went on maternity leave and gave birth to Low's grandson Henry in 2010.

The family feud escalated after Caroline's innocent business partner Susan Mogridge was arrested and held in Police cells for five hours following a complaint from Mrs Low.

When Mrs Baines decided to set up her own agency, Mint Lettings with Susan Mogridge, her furious mother submitted a counter claim to the Court alleging that her daughter had stolen her clients.

Former business partners in the Knebworth based Halcyon House Lettings, mother and daughter reached boiling point and decided on litigation to settle their differences in Court.

However, Judge Seymour dismissed both women's claims in Court. Criticising Mrs Low's complaint to the Police as 'malicious', he said that there was 'no obvious reason for her to take legal action against her daughter other than spite'.
