Payout for Heart Attack Widow

The family of a man who died 36 hours after paramedics failed to take him to hospital for a suspected heart complaint have received a payout from the NHS.

Fokhor Chowdhury, 52, collapsed at home in Hackney on a Saturday from what is now thought to have been a heart attack.

Paramedics decided initial cardiac checks were "textbook perfect" and advised that Mr Chowdhury should take Gaviscon for heartburn, avoid spicy food, and see his GP.

His widow, Samirun, said her husband continued to suffer pain throughout the weekend but was reluctant to call another ambulance due to the way he was treated.

On Monday morning his young son found him unconscious on the floor. Three ambulances arrived but Mr Chowdhury died at the scene.

The NHS Litigation Authority has now settled the claim on behalf of the London Ambulance Service more than five years after the incident, on Saturday January 21, 2012. Mr Chowdhury's family will receive a six-figure sum.

The LAS said:

"We are very sorry that the clinical care Fokhor Chowdhury received fell short of our normally high standards. The crew has since had additional training on further diagnostic tools they could have taken and we have also shared learning with our wider clinical workforce."

If your health has suffered due to the negligence of a healthcare professional you may be entitled to compensation. Call our claims team on 0203 206 1133.
