Thugs Attack Pensioner In Her Own Home

A 65-year-old women has been left with serious injuries after thugs burst into her home and battered her with metal bars.

The incident happened in the small hours of July 19, on Neal Avenue in Ashton-Under-Lyne.

Detectives said two masked men forced their way into the victim's home, attacked the woman, and then fled along the street empty-handed.

The woman, who was at home alone, is in a stable condition at North Manchester General Hospital. She suffered a fractured skull as well as serious face, arm, and eye injuries. She is due to undergo surgery after the extensive swelling has subsided.

Detective Inspector David Loughlin, from Greater Manchester Police, said:

"This was a vile attack on a vulnerable woman who was alone at home. She has been left in hospital being treated for some nasty injuries which could have been even worse."
