There has been much media attention in recent months regarding the PIP breast implants which affected over 47,000 women in the UK.
In the aftermath Sir Bruce Keogh, the medical director of the NHS has produced a report calling for tighter restrictions on cosmetic surgery.
His report revealed that the industry is worth over £3 billion in the UK and is growing due in some part to young people wanting to emulate celebrities and reality TV stars.
He warns of some practitioners not being properly qualified in plastic surgery and calls for the industry to be properly regulated and medical staff to have the correct training. He also calls for the Royal College of Surgeons to have specific standards and qualifications that must be adhered to. Similarly beauticians must have the correct training.
