Cannabis-smoking bus driving crashes into house

CCTV footage has emerged of an Australian bus driver apparently smoking drugs, just moments before his vehicle collides with a house.

The 56-year-old was on his route between Glendenning and Penrith when he lost control of the vehicle at Glenmore Park in Sydney's West.

The footage shows Shaun Murphy taking what is believed to be synthetic cannabis out of a bag, putting it in a pipe, lighting and smoking it.

At one point Mr Murphy can be seen steering the vehicle with his knees and elbows, so he can continue smoking the substance.

The driver then fell asleep, causing the bus to hit a residential building at Glenmore Park.

Although two adults and three children were in the property at the time, all escaped unharmed.

Tests done at the time confirmed the presence of methamphetamine and morphine in the driver's blood stream.

Despite these test results, and despite the accident, he has not been charged with using the drug, believed to be synthetic cannabis.

In court Mr Murphy pleaded not guilty to reckless driving, and driving under the influence of illicit drugs.

He will be sentenced later this week.
