Contradictory Speed Limit Signs Cause Confusion in Doncaster

Motorists in Doncaster have been left confused after two signs with different speed limits were installed at the same spot.

The signs are installed in Woodfield Way, Balby. A sign on the left-hand side of the road displays the limit of 40mph, while on the right-hand side a different sign sets the limit at 30mph.

It is not clear how long the signs have been in place, but it is not the first time road signs have caused consternation in the area.

Last year, a Sainsbury's petrol station at Edenthorpe came under fire after it painted a sign on the road directing drivers towards 'petrel.'

Residents in Penistone Street, Doncaster, were left puzzled when signs went up on either side of the street – one as Penistone, while the other was spelled Pennistone.

And in 2015, a similar 30/40mph signage blunder occurred on the A6002 in Nottinghamshire.

It is understood the correct signage should be 30mph. According to the Highway Code, the speed limit of 30mph applies to built up areas which are identified by the presence of street lighting.
