Ed Balls in 'fail to stop' driving offence

Shadow Chancellor Ed Balls is being investigated by the police after being involved in yet another driving offence this month.

Accused of hitting a parked car whilst attempting a manoeuvre, Mr Balls allegedly, according to a report by The Telegraph, crashed into the stationery vehicle in his beloved Ford Mondeo Estate.

Caught on CCTV cameras, the Labour frontbencher left the scene without leaving his details after damaging support worker, Dan Rowley's, Peugeot 306.

The incident which has put Mr Balls in something of a tight spot, happened in a private car park beside the Labour rooms in his constituency of Morley, West Yorkshire.

Mr Balls has since contacted the owner of the Peugeot, Mr Rowley, 32, to apologise and has offered to pay for the repairs to his car but admits that he left the scene believing he had not caused any damage.

Attempting what turned out to be a five or seven point turn, Mr Balls told reporters that he was aware that during the manoeuvre the bumpers of the two cars did touch.

It was not until Mr Rowley noticed damage to his Peugeot that he contacted Police and the Shadow Chancellor was traced using his registration number from CCTV footage of the car park.

With failure to stop at the scene of an accident carrying a maximum penalty of six months in prison, or a £5,000 fine and up to 10 penalty points, this is the fourth traffic offence Mr Balls has been accused of.

From using his mobile phone whilst driving to speeding and jumping a red light, Mr Balls is keen to keep his licence and has issued a statement to press about the latest embarrassing blunder.

"As soon as I was made aware of what had happened, I took full responsibility for any damage caused".  He went on to add, "It turns out I had hit just above the bumper and I've heard it's just a scuff, there's not any damage to my car".
