Elderly Residents Tied Up In Gainsborough Burglaries

Lincolnshire Police are appealing for information after two cold and calculated burglaries on Sunday, 19 March.

In both incidents the victims were elderly residents who were living alone - a man in his 70s in Portland Terrace, and a woman in her 80s in Ropery Road.

The offender in both cases has been described as a white man in his 20s and of slim build.

The first incident involved an 88-year-old woman who claims that a male forced his way into her home before tying her up and stealing £80 in cash and a mobile phone. At 11.30 the same night, a 75-year-old man reported a similar incident in which his wallet, bank card, and phone had been stolen.

Detective Chief Inspector Pete Grayson, said:

"We strongly believe that these incidents are linked and we are treating this extremely seriously. Whoever has committed these appalling crimes is someone that we need to detain and quickly.

"This morning we will have an increased police presence in Gainsborough and will be knocking on people's doors appealing for information. A team of detectives will be working on the investigation following up various lines of enquiry and reviewing CCTV."
