Morrisons employee arrested after publishing staff payroll information

A Morrisons employee has been arrested this week in Leeds after it was discovered he stole the payroll details of 100,000 members of supermarket staff and posted them online.

The incredible details emerged as many affected employees found out the horror on Facebook before the retail giant had actually informed them by email or post.

According to a report in the Daily Mail, a Morrisons spokesperson has confirmed that the theft affected employees at all levels of the organisation including the board but refused to comment whether Chief Executive, Dalton Philips was amongst the details published.

West Yorkshire Police who made the arrest close to the Bradford headquarters of Morrisons have made a statement saying "An employee of Morrisons has been arrested in Leeds this morning in connection into the theft of data from the company".

As Britain's fourth largest supermarket, the news came as a fresh blow just a day after announcing a profits warning and an incredible £176million loss as it fights to compete with cut price stores likes Aldi and Lidl.

Morrisons say that as soon as the theft was uncovered they contacted all staff with an email address and managers were informing staff at their sites. The spokesman revealed "We can confirm there has been no loss of customer data and no colleague will be left financially disadvantaged".

The data theft was initially leaked by the local Bradford newspaper the Telegraph and Argus after a 'concerned Morrisons shopper' sent the data to reporters there.  Employees of the company were angry at the way the news had been filtered and slammed Morrisons for not informing staff members before they read about it on social network sites.

One furious employee commented 'Reading about this on Facebook does not inspire confidence, we should have been notified by our HR departments' first thing this morning'.
