The Dark Net and the theft of 3million worth of Bit Coins

The Dark Net is a term for services provided via the Internet  that could be considered illegal.

£3.3m in Bitcoins was stolen from Dark Net website "The Sheep Marketplace" and consequently the website has closed.

The theft of the virtual cash was apparently carried out by a vendor on "Sheep" who exploited a bug in the site's software to steal the virtual money.

Sheep Marketplace came to be prominence after the FBI shut down the illegal "Silk Road" in October. That site was described as the "Wild wild west of the Internet".

Both websites enabled people to buy drugs, weapons, and other illegal items with anonymity.

A message has been posted on "Sheep's" index page saying it had shut down following the theft on 21 November of 5,400 bitcoins which is equal to £3.3m at current exchange rates.
